Maintain your BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification

Work at least 500 hours within your certified profession during the two-year certification period

Complete 24 units of continuing professional education during the two-year certification period

Renew your HCI certification every two years

Unlike some certification agencies, the Healthcare Certification Institute does NOT charge an annual fee to maintain your certification.

All Healthcare Certification Institute certifications (and recertifications) are valid for two (2) years from the date of issue.

 
Note: Recertifications are issued with an issuance date that coincides with the current certification end date — even if renewed early.  You are not penalized and you will not lose certification time if you renew before your current certification end date.

Must have an active/unexpired HCI certification ^¹

Must possess active/current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association^® within the United States ^²

Must have worked (with supervision) within your certified profession in the United States for a minimum of 500 hours within the past two (2) years ^³

Must have completed (and have verification for) 24 units of continuing professional education (or the equivalent) within the past two (2) years ^†

¹  If your HCI certification has expired, contact us for reinstatement options.
²  International certificants may substitute alternate, HCI-approved BLS certification.
³  International certificants may substitute non-US work experience.
